Points Test Age Brackets

For skilled migration (189, 190, 491), your age at invitation determines your points: 18-24 years = 25 points, 25-32 years = 30 points (maximum), 33-39 years = 25 points, 40-44 years = 15 points, 45+ = 0 points (generally cannot apply for points-tested visas). The 25-32 age bracket receives maximum points, making it the ideal time to apply for skilled migration.

Planning Around Age

If you're approaching 33 or 40, consider lodging your EOI before your birthday to lock in the higher points. For those approaching 45, explore non-points-tested pathways: employer sponsorship (482/186), Global Talent (858), or business visas (188/888). Some state nomination programs have age exemptions for applicants with exceptional skills or experience in priority occupations.

Parent Visa Age Considerations

Parent visa applicants must be old enough to qualify as a parent (no minimum age, but the balance of family test applies). The contributory parent visa (143) has no maximum age, but health requirements become more difficult to meet with age. If your parents have significant health conditions, apply sooner rather than later as the health requirement may become a barrier.
