What Are Occupation Lists?

Most desirable list. STSOL (Short-term Skilled Occupation List): Qualifies for 190, 491, 482 short-term (max 2 years). ROL (Regional Occupation List): Additional occupations for regional visas only (491, 494).

Commonly assessed occupations: Accountant (MLTSSL), Software Engineer (MLTSSL), Civil Engineer (MLTSSL), Registered Nurse (MLTSSL), Chef (MLTSSL), Cook (STSOL), Early Childhood Teacher (MLTSSL), University Lecturer (MLTSSL), Physiotherapist (MLTSSL). Lists are updated regularly — always check the current list at immi.homeaffairs.gov.au before planning your application.

How to Check

Search your occupation at immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/working-in-australia/skill-occupation-list. Each occupation shows: ANZSCO code, assessing authority, and which visa types it qualifies for. If your occupation isn't on any list, explore alternative pathways: employer sponsorship (some occupations can be sponsored via labour agreements), regional migration, or reskilling into a listed occupation.
